Chengdu Week 5-6 End and Start

Oct. 4, 2014

Well as suspected the morning came way to early for me, 7 am on three hours of sleep is never a pleasant situation. I was miserably tired but I did have a buddy (Jose) to walk me to Jinli street. I met up with Cindy and her parents for our usual lesson. Everything worked out for the first hour with the right number of playing and learning but the Starbucks started getting busy limiting what we could do with the space we had. So we will be trying to meet at my campus and that way we can walk around and play more. After the session I headed back to the dorms. We got food at another little skewers place, I got to go vegetarian which is  always a lovely thing. Not that vegetables are hard to find her but sometime the food we order has more meat than we would like. I have figured out, however, that my ability to communicate what I need and want in my food has gone up. So I think I will be able order more vegetables in the future.
After lunch I finally upload the blog, it took a surprising amount of time too many pictures and slow internet. I also have been studying for our exam that is this Monday. Many of the structures for me are review so I am not to concerned about my ability to do well, but never the less studying is an important factor. Most of the day tomorrow will be study. After a few hours of studying I got in a nap. Then it was dinner time, which I actually was useful for. I cooked up our fries and just generally had fun chatting with everyone in the kitchen. Tomorrow is an American food fry up so I will try to get pictures of all the things we can make and eat together. The dinner always takes a really long time to do just because we have one good, functional burner.
The rest of the night was spent milling about, studying, and chatting with people online. I like the little community we have going on in the dorms it makes coming back home every night an enjoyable experience. Tomorrow will mostly be a study day so we shall see what actually happens. Off to bed for me, it’s almost midnight!

This morning I had a session with Cindy at the University, it turned out much better. She was able to run around and generally be a little four year old. Then we were able to sit down and work on our new words. It was a much better situation, so I think we will be meeting at the university from now on, which makes my life easier in terms of commute. Lots of games and words to learn, she really likes the word bubbles, which was endlessly amusing for me. After we had our session it was back to the dorms for a day of study, my final for the first third of the semester is tomorrow. I am feeling ok about the whole thing, I have learned some of the structure before hand and the vocabulary is generally familiar. We shall see how this goes (mildly foreboding, I know). I know Brennan has been studying in his room for upwards of 12 hours. The dorms is alive with a nervous energy, everyone has a test this week. Dinner was a pleasant surprise, I ended up with a grilled chicken breast sandwich for dinner. Corey (one of our year long students) is the one who owns a grill and he is running a small restaurant out of the public kitchen every weekend. Wish me luck for tomorrow, Good night!!
Didn't have many pictures, so here are some of a sunset!!
