Day 55 -- July 18

So why this tree fell we shall never know. But it did and it was in my way.
There are some night in Taiwan you just don’t sleep. Unfortunately that was last night, I was up until probably 2 or 3 trying to fall asleep. It happens these weird bouts of insomnia, I don’t know maybe so much learning. It worked out though I managed to drag myself out of bed to go get breakfast before conversation class. I decide that today I would eat food I had not eaten before. I have fallen into a bit a rut always going to the same places and getting the same things so I decided to branch out. I had a Taiwanese style riceball, which was excellent. They are really filling. I got to use my Mandarin a bit, it always feels like a victory when I use it and everyone understands what is happening.  Conversation class was hysterical. The Laoshi who teaches it is so animated. She will mime sports and goof around with us. It’s a big class and we have to talk into the microphone.

I went to a bagel place for lunch and got the most epic bagel sandwich ever. Not really but it was really tasty, I also discovered that they serve breakfast and are open early. I am going to try it tomorrow since I have a long class again. After lunch I went to class and gave my presentation. I said I was going to show you but I sorta failed on that. My bad everyone, just know I did alright and Laoshi says that for essentially only a month and half of practice we are doing really well. We have our big test tomorrow it’s going to be very interesting, directions are a little bit odd in Mandarin. I had quite a bit of homework assigned to make up for the lost day. After class I went to go meet up with my Korean friends for dinner.

They took me to a Korean food restaurant that was absolutely delicious, I didn’t know it but I really like Korean food. It’s much spicier than the Taiwanese cuisine which is right up my ally. I really made up for my lack of Mandarin yesterday. I spoke a lot but it becomes a little bit harder when I want to express more complex ideas. I simply don’t know he words or the grammar structure to even begin to go for it. But it worked out in the end. I just really like going and eating with friends sharing meals is perhaps one of my favorite pass times here. We walked back to the dorms and I headed up for the long homework session that was going to follow. Two hours later and I was finally done with everything. I will study again tomorrow hopefully I will do alright on the grammar portion. I am supposed to go with Johnny tomorrow to a new night market, should be fun!
