My alarm went off at noon and I got again and decided to go do some studying outside. I went to grab lunch at Omelet. It’s kinda funny every time I order the spicy vegetable omelet they inform that it’s spicy. I have to give them the ok before they actually write down the order. Apparently they don’t think I would like spicy food? They are very very wrong. I then wandered over to the outdoor student eating area. i got some black Italian coffee. I now know how to order black coffee which is good. The looks people give me for it are hilarious. It’s a mix between shocked and slightly disgusted. They always ask “No Cream? No Sugar?” I did get it, black and delicious.
I sat down for about an hour eating and writing hanzi (Chinese characters). We have a test everyday now, so review before going to class is essential. It was nice sitting outside, it was threatening rain so it wasn’t too hot. Around 1:45, I packed up and headed to the classroom. There I studied some more waiting for class to start. I chatted more with Shadia, the lady from Columbia. She was very surprised that I was here without any family and that my family had let me go. I really don’t know her situation, but it was an odd line of inquiry. Everyone finally made it in and class started.
Today’s class was absolutely hysterical. It wasn’t one thing, our class I think are good friends so we joke about each other nationalities, the picture in the book. We often make puns with words and writing. I think even laoshi has a really good time, she’s always telling us Chinese jokes. It’s more funny to watch her attempt to translate them than the actual joke. Today Chinatsu wrote on my coffee cup about it being my coffee and how James (a Nigerian, Canadian) was actually Japanese but not Taiwanese. We were all laughing because he always changes his nationality when he is asked. It’s very amusing.
After class I swung back, changed and went for a run. I ran for a good hour, probably about 5 and half miles. It was really nice to just run for a while. I really like to run, it’s very relaxing I was able to mull over the day and think about the chapter test tomorrow. I dislike how I feel after I run, imagine if you will jumping into a pool fully clothed, drip drying for about 20 minutes or so then going for a run. That is how runs end in Taiwan absolutely wet with sweat, I have to wring out my clothes because they drip. It’s an interesting experience though.
I am studying for my chapter test, which will be tomorrow. I don’t think anything is too hard yet. I know that this will change though, I really enjoy the pace of the class. This first night was a lot of homework but I have started figuring out how best to split things up. Hopefully I will do well on the test. On a random note a girl just came in here and introduced herself to me and I got to to do the same in Chinese. We understood each other and that is an excellent feeling! Time to sleep!
